What's News
Several people expressed an interest in losing weight so we had a special Weight Loss Focus Group meeting on March 12, and 11 people attended.
Everyone got to see the amount of fat and cholesterol* that goes into our bodies when we eat certain foods. We had test tubes (LipoVisuals) that contain fat and cholesterol (the yellow, waxy substance) so we could learn what our food choices do to our bodies. The tubes are approximately six inches long.

The tubes show the amount of fat and cholesterol there is in the following foods:
1. 3.5 ounces of brisket
2. 1/2 cup of ice cream
3. 1 medium slice of cheese pizza
4. 3 ounces of french fries
5. 1/2 cup frozen yogurt
6. 1 sausage biscuit from McDonald's
7. 3.5 ounces chicken breast without skin
8. 1 5-ounce potato (no butter or toppings)
9. 1 plain bagel
10. 1 Big Mac/McDonald's
11. 1 4-inch pancake
12. 1 glazed doughnut
(*High cholesterol levels contribute to heart disease.)
We also enjoyed a low-calorie, low-fat dessert and food plans were distributed. Please visit our other Web pages for pictures, recipes and food plan links.
I HOPE had its
first
meeting on February 26, 2008. There were 12 attendees. February is National American Heart Disease Month so the meeting topic was Heart Disease. Participants learned about heart disease risk factors and prevention, and had their blood pressures checked.
